The basic application
guidelines for Vitro's corporate identity
elements are shown in this section of the
Manual. To access them, choose an option
from the left menu, or read the content
in a continuous descending manner.
If this is the first
time you have contact with any of Vitro’s
corporate identity guidelines, we strongly
recommend you carefully review each and
every one of the specifications stated in
this Manual.
Corporate Brand > The Symbol
The Symbol is a graphic element made out
of three irregular blocks, which represent
Vitro's stylized "V" (also known
as the "V-block").
This Symbol must be used precisely as
indicated and its proportions must remain
as shown below.
Vitro’s institutional color is the
metallic silver color PMS Silver 877.
Application and usage of the Vitro symbol
is restricted and controlled; authorization
for its use can only be granted by the Steering
Committee Office.
Corporate
Brand >The Logo
The Logo is the characteristic way in which
we graphically represent the Vitro signature.
It is made up of two elements: the Symbol
and the word ending “itro”,
which is placed at the right side of the
Symbol, as shown below. In order to write
the word ending “itro”, the
corporate alphabet must be used. The use
of this alphabet is restricted and controlled,
and may only be authorized by the Steering
Committee Office. It should be reproduced
in the institutional color PMS Silver 877.
Corporate
Brnad > Dimentions and Proportions
In order to determine the
proportions the Vitro logo must keep, the
height of the letter "o" on the
“itro” word ending should be
used as a guide. The height is represented
as letter "X".
Once the X measure has been defined, the
proportion the logo elements must keep is:
1. The height of the V-block
must be equal to 2 X, as shown on the following
illustration.
Corporate
Brand > Minimmum Reproduction Size
A minimum reproduction size
of 6 mm in height should be kept to ensure
the integrity of the Logo when used in reduced
sizes. By respecting the Symbol's proportions,
the 6 mm height will result in 17 mm in
width.
Corporate
Brand > Area of Isolation
This area is the minimum space required
between the Logo and the closest element.
This area must remain clear of any graphic
elements at all time.
In order to determine the area of isolation,
the height of the letter “o”
from the “itro” word ending
should be used as a reference. This height
will be determined as X.
In this manner, the area of
isolation should equal to applying the X
measurement in each of the Logo’s
sides, as shown in the next illustration.
Corporate
Brand > Using the ® Symbol
To prevent third parties from using our
company logo, and therefore attempting to
benefit by presenting themselves as part
of Vitro, the symbol of a registered mark
“®” must appear in all commercial
applications of the Vitro logo, that is,
you must apply it to anything that sells
or intends to do so, such as products' packaging,
advertising and promotional items.
However before applying the ® symbol
to the Vitro logo, you must first verify
that the brand is registered both in the
corresponding classes and in the country
where you plan to use it.
Applying the ® symbol
to the Vitro logo should be in accordance
with the following guidelines:
• The ® symbol should
be placed at the lower right corner of the
Vitro logo
• The ® symbol’s
circle diameter must be equal to one-fourth
the height of the letter "o" of
the Vitro logo
• The left side of
the ® symbol should be aligned with
an imaginary vertical line drawn from the
right side of the letter "o" on
the Vitro logo, as shown in the next illustration
• The upper half of
the ® symbol should be placed over the
imaginary horizontal line drawn from the
lower side of the letter "o" of
the Vitro logo, and the other half of the
® symbol should remain under that line,
as shown in the next illustration
• The ® symbol should
be reproduced in the same color as the Vitro
logo

Color Variation
In
certain circumstances, some adjustments
to the Vitro logo reproduction guidelines
are necessary in order to facilitate the
homogenous application of the corporate
brand logo.
If a technical impossibility to reproduce
the Vitro logo in its institutional color
PMS Silver 877 would occur, authorization
to use any of the variations listed below
must be obtained from the Corporate Identity
Department.
The Corporate Identity Department will
review every case independently, and will
determine if the silver color substitution
by any of these variables is permitted.
Any resolution the Corporate Identity Department
reaches must be strictly observed in order
to guarantee the uniformity and consistency
of the Vitro image. Requests must be channeled
to the identidadvisual@vitro.com
mail account.
As stated in the Use and Application of
the Vitro Visual Identidy Policy, only the
PMS Silver 877 color, or by exception any
of the color variations authorized by the
Corporate Identity Department, can be used
in reproducing the Vitro logo.
Corporate Brand> Web Media
Logo
A logo simulating the silver color effect
has been designed especially for web applications,
electronic presentations, etc.
This application must not be used in any
of the following formats that are intended
for printing, such as Word, Excel, printed
surveys and requisition forms, among others.
Prior written authorization form the Corporate
Identity Department for its use is required
(if you require such authorization, please
send your request to identidadvisual@vitro.com
Corporate Brand> Background
Colors
The Corporate Identity Department has developed
the following recommendations to attain
the desired and optimum visual effect of
the Vitro logo when applied over color backgrounds
or images intended for divers applications
of promotional or advertising nature, without
limiting to these examples.
The following is a description of the 4
basic color schemes with reference to the
recommended and non-recommended colors to
use as backgrounds for the Vitro logo.
• Dark colors (recommended):
Some examples of hues intensified by the
use of black.
• Saturated colors (from this group,
we prefer red, blue, and purple):
Pure hues or complementary colors containing
no white, black or gray.
• Unsaturated (not recommended):
Dark hues containing white.
• Pale colors (not recommended):
Light hues containing white.
• Gray scale (not recommended):
Pursuant to these images, the dark colors
and some saturated colors are the preferred
and recommended colors to be set as a background
of the Vitro logo.
Below you will find some recommendations
to improve the awareness of the Vitro logo
when it is placed upon photos or featured
images.
• Foil stamping
The foil stamped Vitro logo is clearly perceptible
on every kind of image, consequently there
is no need to alter the photo or image in
any way.
Example: Vitro 2003 Annual Report cover
(1.1).
1.1
• Offset printing
Depending on the colors of the images portrayed,
this printing method can result in an imperceptible
Vitro logo. In these cases, a slight modification
of the photo must be done in order to highlight
the Vitro logo.
Problem
Figures 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 show some possible
solutions.

1.4
Figure 1.5 presents an example
of a case where no modification is required.
Any other suggestion to try to solve this
kind of problem can be presented for the
Corporate Identity Department’s review
and consideration through identidadvisual@vitro.com

The Logo Network
This network
has been designed to facilitate the correct
reproduction of the Vitro logo whenever
reproduced in large areas, such as facades,
walls, and billboards.
Corporate
Brand > Improper Use
Variations and embellishments of the Vitro
logo must be avoided. Any alterations in
the appearance of the Logo will compromise
the integrity of the desired Vitro image,
as shown in the examples below.
• Do not alter the dimensions and/or
proportions of the Vitro logo
• Do not reproduce the
Logo in any colors other than PMS Silver
877 or the color variation specifically
authorized by the Corporate Identity Department
• Do not outline the Logo
• Do not apply shadows
• Do not texture the Logo
• The color of the background
on which the Logo is going to be applied
should be chosen according to the “Color
Background” section above and taking
into account the effect of the reproduction
color of the Vitro logo (PMS Silver 877),
in order to ensure the Logo will be clearly
identified
• Re-drawing or adding
graphic elements to the Logo is not permitted.
• Reproducing the Logo
from a copy or an image sent by fax is also
prohibited
• Do not apply the Vitro
logo as a "water mark" on continuous
forms or in any other application
