The history of Super Sky Products, Inc. actually began in 1923 when Walter Belau, its founder and a sheet metal worker, started a business by the name of Super Steel Products that manufactured fireproof windows and hollow metal doors.
In 1929, he expanded his operation and added a skylight division. Due to the success and dramatic growth of this division, it was separated from Super Steel Products; and, in 1959, officially became known as Super Sky Products.
Shortly thereafter, Super Steel was sold to outside investors to enable Mr. Belau to devote more time to his Super Sky skylight business. Also in the 1950's, the new freeway system in Milwaukee County was destined to go through the old Super Sky facility. At that time, Super Sky relocated to the northern Milwaukee suburb of Mequon, and rented an old slaughterhouse. Due to the dramatic growth during the next decade, Super Sky built its permanent facility and moved into it in 1967.
Super Sky is highly regarded by the construction industry...specifically, the general contractors, architects, and owners (domestic and international). The Super Sky "name" is associated with dedication, guaranteed performance, integrity, experience, and professionalism. Super Sky's custom-built skylights have been bringing the beauty of nature indoors for over a half century, along with pioneering modern skylighting methods. By 1958, Super Sky's know-how was encouraging architects to venture into the realm of new design concepts, and installed the first multiple-pyramid at Wayne State University...MacGregor Memorial Conference Center...in Detroit, Michigan.
In 1963, Super Sky completed a landmark installation...the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With 115,000 sq. ft. of glass, it was the largest skylight project at that time. Another first occurred in 1969 when Super Sky lifted skylights into place by helicopter at the Ridgedale Shopping Center in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The skylight frame was assembled in the parking lot of the shopping center and the total weight after assembly was over 11,000 lbs.
Also during the 1980's, international marketing continued to grow, and Super Sky's skylights "globe-trotted" to such exotic locales as Borneo; Newtown, Indonesia; Sarawak, East Malaysia; Moscow, Russia; Saipan; Guam; Sri Lanka, and Lebanon. In fact, Super Sky has projects on the continents of Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and North/South America, and is awaiting (?) the opportunity to obtain its first project in Antarctica.
